What is the procedure for getting disability accommodations at New England College?

Response

New England College provides reasonable academic accommodations to disabled students to ensure equal access.

Students must:

Submit an Accommodation Request and provide supporting documentation as needed

Respond to requests for information from Student Access and Accommodation

Meet with Student Access and Accommodation

Request accommodations each academic term

Briefly meet or touch base OSAA at the beginning of each term to review accommodations

Briefly meet with your faculty to ensure they received your Notices of Accommodations and make any needed arrangements for using your accommodations

Follow the policies and procedures for each accommodation as listed on your letter of accommodation.

Notify OSAA right away of any questions or concerns that you have about your accommodations or any newly realized barriers to access.

In order to ensure you have accommodations in place when you begin your classes, it is recommended that you submit an application and documentation to Student Access and Accommodations immediately after you deposit at NEC.

Documentation should include supporting documentation as needed. This documentation can include testing that a diagnosis was based on, as long as it accurately reflects a student's current condition. IEPs and 504s are great supporting documentation but are often not sufficient to establish accommodations. The underlying reports that were the basis for the IEP and 504 provide the sort of information about how a student processes information or engages in daily living activities that we used for accommodations determinations. Please note that OSAA is unable to accept picture files (.jpg, .img, etc.), unsigned documents or Word or Google Doc documents from students for documentation purposes.

If you were not on a 504 or IEP in the past, please feel free to contact Student Access and Accommodations in order to inquire as to what documentation would be needed.
