If I take two years of Dual Enrollment then when I go to college, will I be a junior?
If planned and executed well, potentially; However, please know that this Dual/Concurrent Enrollment Program(s) were not created to be a Associate Degree granted programs. To earn an Associate's Degree, a student would need to complete 60 credits within a specific Pathway/Major at Prince George's Community College.
Students are eligible to participate in Dual/Concurrent Enrollment over the course of 6 terms (see below):
Semester 1: Summer term prior to Junior Year
Semester 2: Fall term of Junior Year
Semester 3: Spring term of Junior Year
Semester 4: Summer term prior to Senior Year
Semester 5: Fall term of Senior Year
Semester 6: Spring term of Senior Year
There is no limit to the amount of courses that students can take. The PGCC Dual Enrollment Team recommends students limit themselves to 2 courses per semester. Courses at PGCC range between 1-4 courses. A significant portion of our courses are 3 credits. Those courses are typically General Education courses such as Humanities, English, Math, and Social Sciences. The exception would be Science courses.
A student who follows the PGCC Dual Enrollment Team formula would take 2 courses over the duration of 6 terms at 3 credits each (2 x 6 = 12 courses completed) (12 courses x 3 credits per course = 36 credits). This is approximately half of the 60 credits needed to complete an Associate's Degree. A student could instead be eligible for sophomore status at their college of choice after high school graduation if they acrue more than 30 college credits at entry.
Be mindful that a student would need to successfully enroll and complete all of these courses to earn the applicable credit mentioned above. A student would also need to work with the PGCC Dual Enrollment Academic Advisor and their respective college Recruiter/Advisor to ensure the courses are meeting their educational and transfer needs.
