What does it mean to be a First Generation (FGEN) student?

Response from UMA TRIO:

A first generation student is a person for whom neither of their biological or adoptive parents has completed a bachelor's (4-year) degree during the student's formative years (prior to 13 years old). Being an FGEN student makes you eligible to become a TRIO Scholar. Learn more by visiting http://uma.edu/trio
